Thai Bui

Thai Bui’s drawings are engaged and enthusiastic. Animal embraces, burnt matchsticks, passengers immersed in their cell phones, ephemera, Bui’s drawings are considerations of fleeting gestures. These drawings are often produced while in transit or in between moments, full of observation as well as amused invention.
Thai Bui was born in Ha Noi Vietnam in 1960. Bui received his BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1988 and his MFA from Stanford University in 1992. Thai Bui attended the Skowhegan Summer Residency in 1987 and again in 2021. His work has been exhibited internationally and is in several collections including San Jose Museum of Art and The Hechinger Collection.
